Duplex stainless steel is a type of stainless steel that combines the beneficial properties of both austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, while also minimizing their weaknesses.
It is characterized by its high strength and high corrosion resistance, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, particularly in aggressive environments where both strength and resistance to corrosion are essential.
The microstructure of Duplex stainless steel family includes both austenite and ferrite phases in roughly equal proportions. This dual-phase structure contributes to the unique combination of properties that distinguish duplex stainless steel.
Duplex stainless steel grades (example NSSC 2351) allows 25% weight/cost reduction due to much higher strength (can use lower thickness sheets) without compromising on structural integrity. It also has a superior corrosion resistance compared to AISI 316L.
Please, see Test Reports and Certificates to compare Duplex and Austenitic types.
Applications: Stainless Steel Storage Tanks for Desalination plants, Brewing, Petro-Chemical, Cellulose and Pharmaceutical industries. To ensure easy cleaning between production batches, the inner surface of Storage Tanks require to be in N8 Mirror finish.
Due to almost a double value of the Hardness, compared to AISI 316L (265 vs. 147 HV) Duplex Stainless Steel demonstrates a Diamond effect while polishing it to N8 Mirror. You get a flawless, wrinkle free N8 Mirror finish.
Surface Scan Test shows Ra=0.667uin (0.01 micron)
This is the highest quality Mirror finish on stainless steel sheets in the world.
We can produce all our Base finishes and Titanium color (PVD) on Duplex Stainless Steel.
We hope that Architects will recognize the benefits of Duplex Stainless Steel grades and use it more often in Decorative applications for Exterior cladding projects.
